YourStance literally saves lives. Their workshops teach vulnerable young people between the ages of 11-25 how to perform CPR and haemorrhage control and psychological first aid so that they can act as an emergency first aider to victims of serious youth violence before a paramedic arrives at the scene. According to a report by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the number of people killed with a knife in England and Wales in 2021/22 was the highest on record for 76 years, but many lives could be saved if more people were trained on how to deal with the injury of a knife attack and other life threatening injuries.
This is where YourStance comes in. YourStance is a not-for-profit organisation that brings together a team of experienced volunteer doctors and nurses teaching young people in London at risk of serious youth violence how to respond to an emergency. Since 2019 they have taught over 2,000 young people life-saving skills and have run nearly 200 workshops, with the vast majority of those taught saying that what they’d learned had been directly and immediately helpful to them.
Our Solicitor Nicholas Lewis has been assisting YourStance with expert legal advice on a probono basis. Nick’s work has included supporting a corporate review, providing employment advice and legal support on director service agreements and advice on a funding pitch and service offering.
Nick commented on his work: “Knife crime is obviously a serious issue in London and across the UK. Our work together will hopefully help YourStance ensure that it continues to do the vital work of supporting young people. Providing this kind of advice pro bono means that YourStance can concentrate on supporting those who need them.”
