The importance of soil

Understanding soil is vital for our planet and our future.

We attended an event hosted by Earth Set, where we visited the Soil exhibition at Somerset House and then heard Antony Yousefian from VC Fund The First Thirty speak about the crucial links between soil health, biodiversity, and human well-being.

The great thing about the Soil exhibition was that it took every day dirt and interrogated it in innovative ways, so that we can understand its role in our environment, health, climate, food and our future.

Antony’s message was clear: soil isn’t a side issue; it’s a fundamental system impacting carbon, water, food, climate, and health and why the next shift in climate investment may well start underground.

We should celebrate the beauty and importance of this crucial 30cm beneath our feet and work to enhance it. That is why we are spotlighting some of the ways we are supporting organisations that are helping to protect our planet and environment.

As a certified B Corp and proud member of 1% for the Planet, we’ve embedded sustainability into every aspect of our work—from legal services to operational choices.

Through our support of 1% for the Planet we’ve helped to fund nonprofits that are directly tied to biodiversity, such as Trees for Cities that support urban greening projects, London Wildlife Trust that supports habitat restoration, the Environmental Investigation Agency, that defends the natural world from crime and abuse, but also wildlife and environmental organisations such as the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and charities such as RangerLab, AfriCat Foundation and Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation.
